Description

This delightful little Mustang is set to be our favourite desktop model!

At the front, the nose-cone sits in front of a small plate simulating a moving prop. The base is inscribed with some details about the original airplane, which was designed as a long-range, single-seat fighter and fighter-bomber and had a long and distinguished history during and after WWII.

A recent release from Authentic Models, this is a super model, small enough for even modestly sized desks, shelves or tables. Like its partner, the slightly bigger Spitfire, it's big on style and has wonderfully smooth lines. AM's aluminium desk fighter is an exact copy of WWII trench art, the original most likely crafted by a mechanic stationed in an isolated airfield somewhere in the British Isles.

It's a representation of the 1940 design – the first year it flew. Trench art encompasses any decorative item made by soldiers, prisoners of war or civilians where the manufacture is directly linked to armed conflict or its consequences. Although the practice flourished during World War I, the term is also used to describe souvenirs manufactured by service personnel during World War II.

Further Information

This model is 14cm in length and has a wingspan of 16cm. When stood, it is 14cm high. The base has a diameter of around 8.5cm. It is made from moulded aluminium.

Individual models may have small areas where you may notice minor pitting. These small surface imperfections in the finish are part of their ‘trench art’ authenticity and are quite normal. We have not seen any which could be thought to detract from the overall appearance of the model.

Although it has only one movable part and will be much admired by enthusiasts of all ages, this model is not a toy.

This original gift comes from AM (Authentic Models), which in its 40 years of trading has developed a unique high quality collection of artefacts and accessories inspired by the early days of aviation, exploration and adventure.
